Schools Recycling
This element of the programme has been developed to provide children of all ages with a practical experience of recycling, by setting up recycling systems in their own school. In addition to providing ‘hands on’ experience and fostering a responsible culture in the children these recycling systems can also help the schools save money by reducing their overall waste costs.
‘From small acorns, large oaks grow’ - the philosophy behind the Schools Recycling Scheme. Schools should begin with recycling simple waste streams which are easy to manage, such as paper and then build on this success to introduce other waste streams, such as cans, textiles and plastic bottles.
