Kirsten Grundy: Schools Waste Education Team Leader

Hi, my name is Kirsten and I am the Schools Waste Education Team Leader. I work within secondary schools delivering assemblies and workshops on waste management issues, as well as offering them the opportunity to visit the Northampton Borough Council Material Recycling Facility (MRF), and the SITA landfill at Sidegate Lane. I have a number of set workshops that cover topics such as composting, packaging and waste management within Northamptonshire, although I am more than happy to develop a session that meets your specific requirement. I am a trained Secondary School teacher and so I fully appreciate the need to meet national curriculum requirements as well as exam board specifications. As such I am happy to be given a set of learning objectives to develop my sessions around.

I am also involved in a number of other projects within the team such as running competitions, special events and half term activities. As a team we are happy to become involved in projects that are relevant to us, and for which we have time to work on, so we would be willing to listen to people’s suggestions, and to offer support where and when we can.

Heather Marden: Waste Education Officer

Hi, my name is Heather and I am the Waste Education Officer, running primary school workshops, assemblies and visits to the Northampton Borough Council Material Recycling Facility, and the SITA landfill at Sidegate Lane. I have specific workshops and assemblies that I can run such as the 3R's and Composting sessions, or I am happy to develop sessions to meet a schools specific needs. My sessions link to the National Curriculum and are interactive and fun for pupils. I also design themed workshops and activities for specific times of the year, and for during the school holidays. I always recommend tours of the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), and landfill site as they are a real eye opener.

David Heathcote: Waste Education Bus Coordinator

Hi, my name is David I am the Waste Education Bus Coordinator. I travel the county with the Waste Education Bus, delivering sessions that currently focus on the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), however I am quite happy to focus on a particular area if required. The bus is an interactive environment that includes IT and hands on activities and examples of the 3R’s.

I have been working with and presenting to children for over 15 years, and with the support of the Waste Education Team I deliver sessions that meet National Curriculum Standards.
